Description

Commission for TheSlorg , cover art for his story "Worlds Apart: At Eternity's End" featuring 'Apple Bloom' and 'Doug'.

Now this was an interesting one, even from the beginning. The concept of an alien planet, ripe for adventure. So many possibilities and I think I made good use of that haha.
Spend so much time playing around, trying different things out, adding stuff. Trying out colour schemes. There's so many possibilities, but at least I managed to slap myself into moving forward as well and get some needed progress.

So I basically made it a bit more complex than I needed, to be honest. Still fun though, quite the experience and hopefully the result is just as enjoyable :D

Hey there.

First of, great artwork, I was pretty amazed when I stumbled upon this one <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="=)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title="=) (Smile)"/>
So let's see what I can say about it:

The overall composition works quite well, the strongest contrast rightfully lies where the characters are located and the mountains on the right form a nice diagonal line, which draws the eye towards the two.

What I probably like best in the piece is the coloursceme. The transicions between the colors are very nicely done and they all blend together well, making it a believable environment. The characters themselfes are rendered very well too, they really blend in with the Landscape.

A few suggestions for things you could try:
It would be intersting to give a more alien colorpalette to the two humans, so they stand out more. Maybe it would add the feeling that they are new to the place.

When it comes to wide Landscapes it can also be nice to have them look into the distance. The painters of the Romanticism liked to use that effect. You could look at "Wanderer above the sea of fog" from Caspar David Friedrich as a great example.

There is one gripe I have with the piece, which is the amount of detail shown. To me it seems like less might be more here. It could use some more places without detail, so the eye can rest. I heard a pretty cool concept-artist say that you should aim for a 70 to 30% ratio, with 70% of the picture beeing rather plain and without many small details.

Anyways, overall I really like this one,
keep up the great work! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="=)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title="=) (Smile)"/>
