WeLoveFine My Little Pony Ponies Vs. Villians Contest entry: www.welovefine.com/vote.php?id…

If I may ask you for your time to vote in the link above, I would very much appreciate it. Along with my other entries :) (You don't have to pick one, you can vote for them all)

"United we stand, divided we fall.
Friendship is Magic"

This is probably the entry I did for the most purposes. The entire concept behind this is an old one for me, one I had planned for After I hit 1000 Watchers here on DA. But I decided to make it an entry for the contest as well. To actually get me started working on this.
And I'll have to call this my very early 1000 watcher special, in heart it still is. Although I say to myself I should be able to let that go and make a fresh concept.

Coincidentally this is also going to be my first Time Lapse after 100 subscribers on youtube!
Seriously, y'all are amazing, thank you all for the watches and subscriptions. So much appreciation.

I did the during the final 3 days before the contest deadline... finished it before the final day because I wanted to avoid working then, cause time. But my gosh, so many hours in one go. 10 hours were made on a single day.
Since it's slightly rushed, it's not exactly the result I envisioned.

Edit: Also kind of forgot to mention an important, that yes, this is inspired a lot by a certain iconic memorial. :)
And I did not actually realise the close timing with Memorial Day in the US!

Edit2: I guess I should just state it, although a lot have already noticed it :), as to confirm that it is indeed referencing to the flag raising of Iwo Jima

FOBEquestria talked about this on their podcast here (about 2 minutes in): youtu.be/q1tFPqM6ygY

I enjoy this piece of art. The only thing that I would consider disrespectful is what Pinkie is doing, but it does seem to fit her personality...

Here is my thoughts on this...

I personally like this a lot.  I understand fully what you did intended to do with it.  You didn't imply any negatives towards the original.

On the other hand, some of the underlying factors of those who do not like it still have not been explicit enough.  They say that it's disrespectful and whatnot, but I think what they really mean is this: even though the original was as broadcast and well known as it was, over time, younger generations have [naturally] lost the emotion and the heartfelt knowledge that existed with the original.  So, what many of them (those who don't like this) actually mean to say is: this can possibly take away meaning from the original (unintentionally, of course) because many youngsters today (heck, I myself am only 19, although I do know what the original was all about) may not remember or have even known what all was meant by the original image.

Nonetheless, I give you kudos for making this.  The symbolism has been transferred into a meaning of progression - that of love and tolerance - so as to say that we have overcome past difficulties and times have changed.  It still retains the original meaning, but is only meant as a reminder that we have come a long way.

Thank you for this.  It is indeed inspirational.  I also must say you have done a wonderful job yourself defending the image in comments below.

To all of the opposed I must say: Do not take it for granted that this is the only alteration, for it is not.  It may be controversial in your eyes, but many many other new depictions of this have been created, and yet the original retains its meaning.  Respect that.  If you don't like this, move on.  You aren't being forced to like it.

Sorry to hear you feel about it the way you do.
Back earlier this year the folks at FOBEquestria had very interesting input about it on their pod cast, around the 2 min. mark (which I forgot to put in the description): youtu.be/q1tFPqM6ygY
They raised some great points about the flag rising which has become an icon beyond what it "directly" represents. Some of it a sign of it being used in a form of propaganda given the famous photo is a second flag raised specifically for the photo.

This in no way is meant to degrade or insult in any way or form.
It is more something tied to that what became a huge symbol across the world, something that I'd prefer to see as a landmark to the end of horrible times.
There are no intentions to "glorify" or negatively picture the loss and sacrifice of the actual battle of Iwo Jima behind it, if anything I would be wanting to remind folks that that is also a part of it that shouldn't be forgotten.

Although your approach to your comment I won't exactly agree with, I respect your view on this and understand where you're coming from. I might not change your mind or view, nor did I intent to do so, I did want to make clear that the idea behind this picture is aimed to be light-hearted like MLP:FIM, while still aware of the actual background of the reference, Iwo Jima's flag raising although not targeted on those darker aspects.
