Description

A little something for 3 little fillies
Yesterday's piece only had Scootaloo but we must not forget the others, so here they are.

Maybe I could've finished it yesterday if I didn't talk so much during the stream haha. Looked at the recordings and progress that took me an hour or so on Scoot Routine took me 2 or 3 here. Until I went streaming today and forgot time working on this heh.
Fun straightforward piece. Though I still tried to play around in terms of shadows being cast on each other, should make it a bit more interesting.
Rough brushing ahoi.

Anyhow, happy hearts!

<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/p/p…" width="18" height="20" alt=":plotting:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="430" title="Hmm. Evil plotting in progress."/> This looks pretty impressive for 8 hours of work.

I don't see a whole lot to critique in your work here. You've followed the show's character models very closely. I think the hair standing up at the back of Scootaloo's head is the farther from the show's style, but it strikes me as a nice touch. The shadows and eye shine are spot on, good composition... The only minor thing might be to extend the vertical post behind Applebloom's head a bit further to the left below her chin and above Scoot's tail (feels like the top of the post is floating from this camera angle).

As far as personal observations, the relatively unfinished style looks almost like woodwork (most prominent with the pony bodies). I think when you polished the textures in some of your previous work

the skin did appear much more like fur, but I presume that's more of a time constraint issue that you didn't pursue with this piece.

I'm not terribly fond of the direction you're headed with the heads, and snouts in particular. For me, the heads feel a bit too big and the snouts too pronounced. The cranium size reminds me faintly of older MLP generations. It's odd, it looks completely on-model with the MLP:FiM show, it's just the 3D style gives the head so much more weight that it feels much larger, particularly with Scoots and Applebloom here.

The shadow boundaries along the nose make them appear like they're composed of distinct geometric shapes. I feel *InuHoshi-to-DarkPen does this quite a bit, resulting in a "box snout" look

whereas some others fuzz the boarders more to make a softer, rounder snout

that merges with the mouth area. There's certainly room for interpretation when extrapolating the show's cell shaded characters to 3D, I just personally prefer a more melded nose-with-face design <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="19" height="19" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="234" title="Shrug"/>

Looks great overall, keep up the awesome work <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
